Portraits by Cinda Sue Dow

Children & Family Portraits
Whenever possible, I like to meet my subject to get a feel for his or her personality and to take the photographs from which I will work.    For children, being in their own environment helps to put them at ease, so I generally recommend an in-home photo shoot.  If distance precludes my coming to you to take pictures, I will consider your photos.  However, if I feel your pictures do not provide sufficient detail to enable a good rendering, I may not accept the commission.

Try a Specialty Portrait!
My Specialty Portraits are a fun way to depict yourself, family, or friends in a unique way.  Select a favorite “old painting” and I will put you and yours in it.  Keep in mind, my medium is Pastel, so even though the “old” painting you choose may be oil or water color, I will render it in Pastel.  In most cases, it is necessary to “stage” the composition so it can be as near as possible to the original, except, of coarse, you and yours will populate it.  The travel distance and the specifics of the portrait will determine weather I will come to your location for the sitting, or whether you will come to my studio.

Mother and Bride
This portrait requires special comment as it incorporates an unusual element.  The background image of the Mother of the Bride is incorporated in a manner as to indicate her spiritual, rather than physical, presence.  Original Pastel.

Portrait Rate Guide
Head & Shoulders $500
Three Quarter Figure $800
Full Length $1,500

You may use the table above to get a general idea of what the portrait you have in mind will cost.  Keep in mind, however, that the final rate will depend not only on size and view, but also on the amount of additional detail desired in the painting. Prices increase with added detail.  A portrait with an elaborate background will typically cost about 30% more than the same portrait with a plain background.  Inclusion of a pet or animal typically adds 25-50% to the cost.  Prices listed above are for single figure portraits with simple backgrounds. I will provide you with an estimate once we discuss the details of your particular commission. Estimates may be revised if additional detail elements are requested at any time after the initial estimate has been given..

Additional Considerations

As you are planning for your portrait, also keep in mind that travel expenses associated with the sitting (i.e. photo-shoot) are the responsibility of the client, as are shipping expenses.  Estimates will be provided in advance for these items, as well.

Payment
All commissioned works are subject to prepayment on the following schedule: 1/3 down payment, 1/3 after acceptance of preliminary sketch, and the final 1/3 upon completion and prior to shipping.

Paypal is my preferred form of payment.

Shipping & Delivery
Unless other arrangements have been made, your portrait will be shipped via UPS standard delivery. An estimate of shipping fees will be delivered to you, and payment expected, prior to delivery.
